The Indian context
Jewellery shop reviews in India read differently from reviews of other retail. Gold is bought as adornment and as savings; families shop together; weddings drive large, time-critical orders; and price depends on the day's gold rate plus making charges. Customers write about all of this, often in a mix of English and their own language.
What customers praise
- Patient staff who helped the family choose, without pressure.
- Clear explanation of gold rate, making charges and purity.
- Designs, especially for weddings and festivals.
- Smooth exchange of old gold.
- Delivery of orders on the promised date.
What customers complain about
- Making or wastage charges that felt high or were not explained.
- Exchange and buyback terms that differed from what they expected.
- Orders, alterations or repairs not ready on time, especially before weddings.
- Long waits and crowding during festive peaks.
- Feeling ignored or rushed while other customers were served.
- Doubts about purity, weight or certification.
Purity and trust
Purity questions deserve careful replies. Since 1 April 2023, hallmarked gold jewellery sold in India must carry a six-digit HUID, which customers can check with "Verify HUID" in the BIS CARE app, according to the Government's release. Pointing customers to that check, calmly, is usually the best reply to a purity doubt.
PIB on HUID-based hallmarking.
Sale of hallmarked gold jewellery without 6-digit HUID to be prohibited after 31 March 2023 (PIB, 4 March 2023)Seasons change the reviews
- Festive peaks: more reviews about crowding, waiting and billing.
- Wedding season: more reviews about custom orders, delivery dates and alterations.
- Quieter months: more reviews about staff attention and exchanges.
Compare each season with the same season last year rather than with the month before.

Languages
Reviews mix English with Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati and Malayalam, often in Roman script. Analysis that reads only English misses part of the picture, and replies in the customer's language are appreciated when written well.
Using this in a chain
- Classify reviews into these themes for every store.
- Compare stores of the same format and city tier.
- Watch pricing-clarity and exchange themes closely; they are policy issues that staff can fix at the counter.
- Read the praise: the stores customers love explain things well. Share what they do.
Jewellery store reviews: a playbook for jewellery chains.
Jewellery store review playbookCommon questions
Do reviews mention specific brands' policies?
Yes, often by comparison. Focus on making your own terms clear rather than responding to comparisons.
How should we respond to complaints about the gold rate?
Explain that prices follow the day's rate, show what else is in the price and invite a conversation.
Are online orders reviewed differently?
Online reviews focus more on delivery, packaging and returns; keep them separate from store reviews.
What is the single most useful thing to track?
Pricing-clarity and exchange complaints by store; they are frequent, costly and fixable.
What reviews sound like
"Staff explained the making charges and gold rate patiently, my parents were very happy with the wedding set."
"Exchange value of my old gold was much lower than they told me last time. Very disappointed."
"Ordered a necklace for my sister's wedding, delivery was promised in 10 days, got it the day before the function."
Three reviews, three themes: pricing clarity done well, exchange terms done badly, and a delivery promise that nearly failed.
Store and online reviews
Many jewellery brands now sell online too. Store reviews focus on staff, waiting and in-person explanations; online and app reviews focus on delivery, packaging, sizing and returns. Keep them separate so a delivery problem does not hide in store results.
Doing this with Falcon
Falcon classifies every Google Maps review of every store into a taxonomy built from your own reviews, with the sentiment of each mention. Negative share by topic, store and month shows which issues are rising where, small samples are flagged, and every number opens the reviews behind it.
